HOMEWORK FOR 02/03

Hand in the final task :

BRITAIN’S HISTORIC AND FAMOUS CHARACTERS

For those who went on the trip, work with one of the persons staying in the same host family as you :

From what you have learned during our trip to London, prepare a leaflet to present some of what your learned, by including :

  • 2 or 3 historic characters
  • 2 or 3 fictional characters (for a total of 5 characters minimum)
  • Your own definition of the essence of Britishness

Use your own photos that you took during the trip to illustrate this leaflet.

For each character, describe them, what you learned about them and how they are a part of the British identity. Try to link them to the idea of « Myths and heroes ».

You will also have to include a paragraph about the British themselves and your experience with them : compare what you discovered to the clichés you knew, discuss what you think really is « Britishness » after this experience.

For those who did not go on the trip :

Prepare a leaflet presenting your own idea of Britishness, by presenting :

  • 2 or 3 historic characters
  • 2 or 3 fictional characters (for a total of 5 characters minimum)
  • Your own definition of the essence of Britishness

Describe each character the best you can (personal life, occupation, hobbies, qualities/faults, etc.) and show how they are a part of the British identity. Try to link them to the idea of « Myths and heroes ».

You will also have to include a paragraph about Britishness : try to define it and nuance it, by using the documents we studied in class as well as your own personal research for this project.
