– How and why was this hero made ?
Conclusion about Rosa Parks :
This text is a speech (a eulogy) delivered by Oprah Winfrey for Rosa Parks’s death. Rosa Parks became famous because she refused to give up her seat to a white man in a bus in 1955. At that time, blacks had to sit at the back of the bus and white sat at the front. She dared to stand up to a white man.
Rosa Parks was an activist, so her act was not spontaneous or random, it was deliberate and thought through (she did it on purpose), to send a message. Nevertheless, it was a single act, and it could have been anyone else. Unlike Steve Jobs, Rosa Parks is a regular woman, she does not have a gift or anything like that.
Oprah Winfrey says that she is grateful to Rosa Parks for what she did. She is a role model for other people who are also role models, like O.W. She is so important in the US because she was the first African American female role model.
We see that there is a feeling of community / of brotherhood expressed by O.W. in the text (“we”, “sister Rosa”). Rosa Parks has become an example to follow for all other African Americans who did not have a role model to look up to.
